Oakhill College Rugby Dinner

It's great to see that the Oakhill Rugby Dinner has quadrupled in size over the last three years. Finally Benildus Hall was comfortably packed with Oakhill parents having a great night. Even the stage was busy with singers, dancers and the odd tamborine player! The success of the night is the result of the hard work from the Mums and Dads of the Oakhill Rugby fraternity. For the last three years Janneke Chudleigh and her band of selfless helpers have bought the small gathering of about 50 parents to Saturday night's numbers of over 200! As all patrons who attended the function found out, not only was the meal delicious, the dance floor full and the prizes and awards flowing fast, but the band felt spoilt by the hospitality shown by the Oakhill parents and friends. The band line-up on the night consisted of Tony on drums, Pete on keys, big Dave Hatton on bass and the duelling lead specialists, Damian on lead guitar and Igor on sax. Certainly the winners on the night with their duelling lead performances were the crowd and even myself. They certainly love to show off, and with their talent, deserve to do so. Janneke kept everyone on their toes, not unlike a primary school teacher on playground duty - which is what she is!
Check out the photos below and please feel free to comment on the event via this website (see link below). Don't forget we play parties, weddings, corporate functions and in fact any excuse you need to have us at your place, we're happy to be there - just let us know. Congratulations once again to the Oakhill Rugby Social Committee, parents, coaches and of course the reason we all come together -the boys who pull on their boots every Saturday to defend the name of Oakhill College.

Steve

Christmas in July at Marist Bros Eastwood

It was cold enough to be Christmas time in the Northern Hemisphere but the reality was it was Marist Bros Eastwood P&F "Christmas in July" Night(held on August 1st)!
The truth was everyone involved had a great night, good food, great company and thankfully a rowdy group of dancers on the dance floor.
"Van the Man" consisted of a 4-piece line-up with Tony on drums, Peter on keys, a sick but willinging Tony Merrick on bass and yours truly on acoustic guitar and harmonica.
The night was kept moving by the MC double act with auctions, prizes and even a coin toss for bottles of alcohol (thanks Santa)!
Photos below show some of the happy revellers enjoying a quiet drink, or opening their presents under the Christmas tree.
Don't forget if you're at the night or recognise someone in the photos you can reply using the "reply" button under this report and let us know what you thought of the night, or maybe you would like to create your own christmas celebration or party just for the hell of it.

What a great night. My friend and I were the first two on the dance floor, from then on it was packed all night. You really got everyone in the mood. We nearly brought the house down when you sang Gloria, as one of the girls in our group is Gloria. Will watch out for your next gig on the coast.
From all of Glorias girls!!!!!!!!!!

Well what a great night it was at the Everglades,, who would have thought the Everglades could arrange such a absolutely fabulous night. Thanks heaps to the entire band for not only delivering such excellent music but also for creating a fantastic party atmosphere.
Our entire party of 10 enjoyed every minute of the night and judging by the totally packed out dance floor all night I guess the whole audience did as well. Just can’t beat live music. Cannot wait until the next time.

Pitt Town Sporting Club

Always a good night.
On a very cold night in Pitt Town a great line up for Van the Man hit the stage.Pete on keys fresh back from touring overseas,Tony on drums, our new drummer who knows every joke under the sun and loves to tell you all of them,(He's such a nice bloke). One of the only originals left playing bass, big Dave Hatton(always so dependable).Young Damian on lead guitar,Young? he's an old bugger like me who still just loves to play music,I know how he feels,we are very lucky and of course Igor or should I say Prince Igor on Sax,what a showman, what a player I think we are all lucky to know each other and get the opportunity to play with each other, thanks guys. The crowd loved the musical duals between Damian and Igor what show offs but well deserved.Another good night had by all, plenty of dancing and a great range of ages all enjoying the music and one another's company, thanks for letting me be part of it..Steve.

Steve "is" the man and prince igor is "saxy" (according to my wife). Van the Man is not warmed up covers but where Van is today according to us true believers. The richness of the sound, the depth, the perfection, and the special soul of Van Morrison comes on stage with all your favourites sounding even better than most of the original recordings. Close your eyes and be taken "into the mystic" Van the Man - is the real deal!

State of Origin III

Van the Man Played in the Legends Bar and we were certainly in the company of Many of the Great Legends of State of Origin from Years gone by.I think however we were out numbered not only on the stage by the Maroons but also in the crowd WHATS GOING ON BLUES!!!.I thought I was playing at Lang Park!Oh well we blues seemed to have the Blues even before we went to watch the match,ah but what a great game!!we may have lost the match but Rugby Legue won the night with all the hard hitting play we always see in the Origin games. The punters came back after the match and licked their wounds and had a couple of Ales to sooth the nerves.
Congratulations Cane Toads but we'll be back next year bigger and better.GO THE BLUES!!!
